The Zweistädtelauf was first held in 2011 in Merkendorf as part of the Bavarian Village Culture Days and takes place annually in September during the Merkendorf Cabbage Week. With about 400 active runners of all age groups, the Zweistädtelauf has developed into a significant sporting event in the region. The event primarily follows the Zweistädte Hiking Trail between Merkendorf and Wolframs-Eschenbach and offers a supporting program in the start and finish area. Participants can choose from five different distances, ranging from the children's run to the half marathon.
